2012-2013 Sports News and Accomplishments


Pictured above is WHHS Carly Brereton who is the recipient of the 2013 Kelley Camp Scholarship. She was ranked 4thin the class and was a three sport athlete in soccer, hockey and lacrosse. She will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall.




Pictured above is Athletic Director Jon Capone presenting the Bob Greenwood community service award to WHHS Alyssa Maddern. The award is presented annually at the Rotary Club Scholar Athlete Luncheon. Alyssa was a 4 year member of the girls hockey and lacrosse teamsshe assisted in the Unified Sport teams, and she also participated inDecca and was a member of theNational Honor Society. She will be attending the University of Rhode Island in the fall.



Pictured above is WHHS Carly Brereton and Austin Hansen who were recently honored at the Aqua Turf in Southington by being named CIAC Scholar Athletes of the Year. Carly is a member of the soccer, hockey and lacrosse teams. She is ranked 5thin the class with a 4. 3 GPA and will be attending UConn in the fall. Austin is a member of the tennis and hockey team and is named to the Coaches All State Team for hockey. He is ranked 10thin the class with an overall GPA of 4.0 and will be attending Providence College. Also attending the dinner were AD, Jon Capone and Head Hockey Coach, Joe Morrell.




Pictured above is WHHS Catherine Fournier signing her Letter of Intent to swim at St. Rose College in the fall of 2013. She is a four year member and a captain of the swim team and holds a 3.5 GPA. Sitting beside her is her mother Mary Fournier.

Pictured above is WHHS Cameron Stone & Jordan Brereton accepting the SCC Scholar Athlete Award for the month of March from the AD, Jon Capone. Cameron has an overall GPA of 3.7 and is the captain and a 4 year member of the baseball team.He will be attending Stony Brook University. Jordan’s GPA is 4.0 and has been a 4 year member of the soccer, hockey and lacrosse (captain) teams. She will be attending either St. Lawrence Universityor Providence College.

Pictured above is senior football player Qusaan Hoskie signing his letter of intent to Southern Connecticut State University on an athletic and academic scholarship. His overall GPA for 4 years is 3.6 and he was a 4 year member of the football team. Looking on are AD, Jon Capone and Head Football Coach, Ed McCarthy.






Pictured above is WHHS Girls Hockey Coach, Carol Franco and senior, Alyssa Maddern, who was recently named to the SCC First Team All-League. She is considering attending the University of Rhode Island, Sacred Heart or UConn.

Pictured above are WHHS Cheerleaders, Leatrice Alston (left) who was named for the SCC ALL-League Team and Alicia Knox (right) who was also named for the SCC All-League Team and CIAC All-state Team.


Pictured above is WHHS Senior Basketball player, Jayva Johnson who became the 6thplayer in school history to score 1000 points in her career.

She accomplished this on January 24, 2013 in a victory over Jon Law High School. Pictured with her is head coach Jim Eagan, who presented who with the game ball, her dad Keith and mom Sharon.



Pictured above is the WHHS Cheerleading Competition Squad, who recently competed at Hofstra University and received 1stplace in their division. The team will now move on to Florida and compete in the National Competition in February.

The Girls Swim Team who did fundraisers throughout the year for their annual banquet decided to forego individual gifts andinstead donate the funds to American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund



The following student athletes are the recipients for the fall sports Texas Roadhouse Character Counts Award.

Standing are Athletic Director Jon Capone presenting the SCC Scholar Athlete Award to WHHS student athletes Carly Brereton and Abdul Zachariah.  Carly is a member of the Soccer, Hockey and Lacrosse teams. She is ranked 4th in her class and her GPA is 4.5.  Abdul is a member of the Soccer and Tennis teams, who is ranked 7th in the class with an overall GPA of 4.3.



On Friday August 17, the WHHS Cheerleaders (seated in the front row) held a clinic for the West Haven Seahawks Cheerleaders (pictured above).  Head Coach Angie Austin, and Director of Cheerleading Cebi Waterfield helped organize the event along with the Booster Club parents from both groups.
