We are thrilled to introduce you to our new principal, Mr. Bohan, who joins the high school with a wealth of experience and a passion for education. In this Q&A feature, Principal Bohan shares his vision for the future, his commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment, and a little bit about his journey in education. We hope this conversation will help you get to know Principal Bohan better as he embarks on this exciting new chapter with our school.

Q: Can you share a little about your background and experience in education?
A: I have 31 years in education. All of those years have been in the West Haven School District. I started my career at Molloy Elementary School and worked there for 12 years as a classroom teacher. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Back in the 90's, the 6th grades were at the elementary schools, so I taught 6th grade as well. From there, I moved to Bailey Middle School for 4 years to teach Mathematics.

After a combined 16 years in the classroom, I was assigned to be a district math coach and I spent 4 years in that position before being named Assistant Principal at Bailey Middle School. After 4 years as an AP at Bailey, I was named Principal of Bailey Middle School. I've spent my last 7 years in that position.

Q:  Can you describe your leadership qualities and what you bring to WHHS? What can students and staff expect?
A: I've always considered working with West Haven students and their families a privilege. The one level that I have not worked at is the high school level. That is about to change, and I could not be happier about that. Most of West Haven High School's student body knows me from coming through Bailey Middle School. I'm so excited to reengage with these kids. I look forward to supporting them inside and outside of the classroom as they move forward toward their eventual high school graduation.

I'm also looking forward to working with the talented, supportive, and caring West Haven High School staff. This staff, West Haven High School students, and their families, will come together to form one family. We will fill it up with our collective celebrations and successes. We will work together to overcome those obstacles that stand in our way. At West Haven High School, one person will be no more important than any other person. Together, we will become West Haven High School.
