AthletesMartha Agustin and Anthony Iannotti are athletes at West Haven High School this season. Martha competes on the girls varsity tennis team playing doubles, while Anthony competes on the boys varsity lacrosse team as an attackman. Each has taken on meaningful roles that require focus, consistency, and leadership throughout their seasons.

For Martha, a breakthrough moment came when she earned her first varsity win alongside her doubles partner. “My favorite memory while being on the team was getting my first varsity win with my doubles partner,” she said. “It was the most exciting thing ever, and it set my partner and I for success in future matches from that point forward.” Anthony reflected on a postseason experience that stood out in his career, saying, “My favorite memory was my sophomore year when we made it into states.” He added, “We ended up winning the first round to then make it to the second round and play fairfield prep. We did end up losing that game but it was still and unreal experience.”

Martha and Anthony also shared what they have learned through their roles as leaders this season. Martha explained, “One thing I’ve learned with being captain this year was that it takes a lot of courage, work, and dedication to be one, but seeing my teammates thrive on the court makes it all worth it.” Anthony focused on the growth that came with responsibility, saying, “The most important thing that i have learned from being a captain this year is how to be a leader.” He added, “I have also learned how to stay calm during stressful situations. Being a captain also taught me how to be more responsible on and off the feild.”

Both athletes also balance strong commitments outside of their sports. Martha said, “One thing i’m proud of on the field is being a Section Leader for our school’s band, being a member of Science National Honor Society, and being able to balance college-level classes and extracurricular activities in an efficient way.” Anthony shared, “One thing i am proud of is is my school / sport balance.”

Looking ahead, Martha plans to attend college where she will major in Biochemistry with aspirations of becoming a pediatrician. Anthony will attend IYRS School of Technology to study marine systems.

Each athlete credited important people in their lives for helping shape who they are today. Martha said, “A person who’s helped me on and off the court, and shaped the person who I am in my sport is my dad. He has helped me become a better tennis player since I started to play my freshman year, and he’s someone I look up to very much.” Anthony said, “Both of my parents definitely helped me become the person i am today. Everything they do they always have my best interest in mind. They have been with me and supported me through everything.”

Martha Agustin and Anthony Iannotti continue to represent West Haven High School through their commitment to their teams and the way they approach their responsibilities. Their experiences this season reflect steady growth and strong leadership throughout their programs.
