West Haven High School held a pep rally today as the football team prepares for its first State Championship Game in 20 years! The Blue Devils play Staples tomorrow at 5 p.m. on Arute Field at Central Connecticut State University. The WHHS Business Department took a field trip to the Bankruptcy Court in New Haven. Several area attorneys and Judge Nevins welcomed them to the 18th floor of the financial building in New Haven to show them the ropes and do a mock hearing about a gentleman who was in serious debt, including credit cards, student loans, and repossession of a car. Students learned about the various types of lawyers and talked about some famous people who have filed for bankruptcy. This all coincides with our Personal Finance Class and how to help students think before they make a purchase.
West Haven’s football coaches and team reps attended today’s CIAC Media Day at TPC River Highlands, which was held for all the teams competing in the State Championships this weekend! As a reminder, West Haven will play Staples at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at CCSU. Come out and support our team!

Congratulations to the West Haven High School football team on defeating Greenwich, 26-13, in the CIAC State Tournament Semifinals! The Blue Devils advance to the Class LL Championship next Saturday, December 9th, and will face Staples at 5 pm. The game will be played at Central Connecticut State University.

The 2023 Toys for Joy request form is now open on PowerSchool. Toys for Joy is run by the West Haven High School Peer Advocate volunteer group and provides toys for West Haven Public School children aged 12 and under. Families who would like to request toys should fill out the Toys for Joy 2023 form on PowerSchool. Families may only request toys for West Haven Public Schools students, and up to two non-school-aged siblings. The form will close on December 8th, or once 350 families have signed up. Families who need assistance accessing PowerSchool should email Michael.James@whschools.org, or call 203-937-4300 x7129.
Come out to Ken Strong Stadium tonight to support the WHHS football team as they take on New Britain in the CIAC Quarterfinals! Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Last week, Carrigan Intermediate School hosted a Carrigan Staff vs. Staff basketball game! The game included a halftime performance by the WHHS Cheerleaders, raffles, concessions, games in-between quarters for students, and DJ’ing by 5th-grade teacher Mr. Hughes!
Last week, 41 students in the WHHS criminal justice cohort observed court proceedings at Milford Superior Court. Students listened to defense and prosecuting attorneys as well as the judge. Additionally, 16 students sat in the jury box and got a feel for jury duty.
REMINDER | There will be no school on Thursday, November 23rd, and Friday, November 24th in observance of Thanksgiving.
Students in the West Haven High School Criminal Justice Cohort visited Milford Superior Court today. Students observed court proceedings and were able to meet and ask questions to the judge, prosecuting and defense attorneys.
REMINDER | Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023, will be a half-day session for students.
